I was hired to work as a freelance film scorer for the short film, Driftwood. The film was directed by Izak Letargo for Animo Film Lab.

Izak tapped me early in May to work with him for this film, and the film itself had gone through various changes that made it quite different from Izak’s initial pitch to me. As it is now, the film focuses on a romance ghost story that heavily emphasizes its temporal setting being in the 21st century. Sonically, this theme translates to a heavy focus on digital synths, glitch effects like detuning and static, inspiration from rock and EDM.

With the film being a romance, I pitched the idea of having individual leitmotifs for the film’s main couple. In the soundtrack, you can take notice of this with how the leitmotifs are panned left and right; there are times when the leitmotif panned to the right is either gone or heavily distorted, which actually complement a certain narrative element in the film.

The entire soundtrack was made from May to July in Cakewalk by Bandlab. I remastered the soundtrack in September, months after the film’s July release.
