The short film “Paskulang” was my very first work in film scoring.
The project was done for a film festival by the Ateneo Film Org back in 2019. Javi Sison, my then-classmate and director of the short film, messaged me online about whether I had time to come up with music for a project he was working on. He knew that I played piano, and that a piano-esque score would fit quite well with the tone of the short film.
I did in fact had quite a lot of free time back then, so I immediately went to work. I spent a weekend teaching myself how to use a DAW (I believe I used Bandlab), connecting my piano to my laptop, and fooling around with some chord progressions and melodies.
The end result is the score you’re hearing in the video below.
